Why Oren Is a Complex Character

“A diamond doesn't start polished and shining. It once was nothing special, but with enough pressure and time, it becomes spectacular. I'm that diamond,” once said Solange Nicole. In the short story “The Save '' by Joseph Bruchac Oren is a very unconfident character and he finds his confidence and is shining. In this story, the main character, Oren, struggles with confidence, is very nervous, and is very pressured. Throughout the story, he gets a chance to become something great. Oren is a complex character because he is nervous, doubtful, and very pressured.
Oren is a complex character because he's nervous. In the story, he has all of his padding on and he feels naked showing he's scared or nervous. On page 1 of the story it quoted “Even with the mask on his face, padding, and gloves, he was feeling naked.”. This quote I found in the story shows that he is nervous because he feels naked and if you feel naked you feel like an outcast. On page 2 the book quoted “Oren crouched. He could feel his heart beating now. It was pounding so hard it was as if an eagle were trying to fight its way out of his chest.” His heart was beating very fast because he was scared of the two players …show more content…

In the story, Oren is a very doubtful character because he thinks he's worse than everyone else for some odd reason. “And everybody has their head and shoulders above these guys… Except me.”. This is linked to my topic sentence because he thinks everyone is better than him and more confident than him. He has a lot of experience in lacrosse and saying the stick felt heavier than a sledgehammer was showing he is doubtful in himself and is scared. “Oren shifted the stick from one hand to the other. Usually that was no big deal. Right now it feels heavy as a sledgehammer”. He is a very experienced lacrosse player and for his lacrosse stick to feel very heavy this shows he is nervous and doubtful of
