Our America is a book and a movie of the struggle in the Southside of Chicago. Even though, the main plot of the book and the movie was how two characters named Lealan and Lloyd find a way to broadcast their struggles in living in the Southside of Chicago. But, both the book and the movie have the main plot of Eric Morse’s death. Which happened in 1994, two boys Johnny and Tyrone threw a 5 year old boy named Eric out the window because they wanted him to steal candy and he didn’t and so Eric snitched on them. Our America: the book and the movie has similarities and differences such as the plot , character, and other things.
This is were Glory begins the movie depicts the story through Shaw’s eyes from the battle of Antietam where Shaw is dumb founded by the horror of war, now this is a tad bit of a history let off because he would have already seen combat casualties in the 1st battle of Winchester where there were huge casualties
A Band of Brothers, By James M. McPherson The Civil War, which started in April 1861, was the war in which changed American History eternally. It consisted of extremely ordinary, inexperienced men fighting a battle that was much bigger than them, and existed long before their time. While most of the men fighting in the war were mere volunteers, with no battle experience, they were expecting to simply fight, win, and return home with no impediments. This was clearly not the case. The article, A Band of Brothers, distinctly describes the men's pure intention for not only joining the Confederate, and Union army, but remaining in it, when it became clear it was not going to be an effortless, minute battle.
The three movies – Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, and The Green Berets – are all movies based on the same historical event – the Vietnam war and US’s involvement in it. Yet, they all presented us with different and narrative point of view and authority figures in order to paint their individual values. The movies’ most obvious differences lie within the choice of their narrative point of view. The Green Beret, the earliest one, was directed by John Wayne and he also starred in the leading role. Wayne’s authority and influence in the 1960s was similar to the influence of Tom Hanks in the 21st Century.
The film I am analyzing, A League of Their Own, would be categorized as a narrative film about the growth of women’s baseball teams during World War II. It follows the dramatized story of Dottie Hinson’s time in her baseball league and their struggles to make women’s baseball be taken seriously; however, the film focuses more on Dottie’s personal goals and relationships. With the added personal challenge of Dottie’s increasing rivalry with her sibling, Kit, as well as the uncaring attitude of their manager, Jimmy Dugan, Dottie’s tale is filled with tension and emotion that is shaped to draw the audience in. To showcase the drama of the film and to help the audience become attached to the stories of the characters, the movie uses flashbacks, comedy, and interpersonal drama to manufacture the story of our main character, Dottie, more interesting and engaging to the audience. As is easily evident simply by the summary of the movie, A League of Their Own is a nonfiction, narrative film made for entertainment and drama, and uses the time period as the circumstances of the story relevant to the audience.
All Quiet on the Western Front tells the story of Paul Baumer, a German young man who is drafted into the army with some of his high school friends. Unfortunately, he and his friends have unrealistic ideas about what they are going to face while serving. The movie shows the tragedy of war through the emotional connection characters have, and focuses on the experiences had by the newly enlisted group of friends. I both enjoyed and did not enjoy the movie All Quiet on the Western Front. The parts that I enjoyed included the detail and historical accuracy which could be lined up with the information we have been learning in class.
American Romantic heroes are people who have been rejected by society in a way, and end up on a quest trying to fulfill something for themselves but end up doing something of a greater cause. In the movie “The Last of the Mohicans” Nathaniel is considered a romantic hero. As he sets out on this journey he displays the qualities that make him an American Romantic hero. Nathaniel is considered a romantic hero because of his quest for some higher truth in the natural world, his sense of honor based on some higher principle, and his affiliation with nature.
A Time of Brutality Throughout All Quiet on the Western Front, Erich Maria Remarque expresses the harsh outcomes and brutalities of World War I. He portrays the events of his novel in Germany when soldiers come face to face to battle each other and endure the cruel aspects of the war. Remarque reflects a period of death, sorrow, and destruction as each of the characters in his novel experience the brutalities of the war. During the time, as the war progressed, many soldiers experienced death and pain while approaching the front to battle. The harsh aspects and severities of the war were expressed among the soldiers and fighters that took part in the war, as they endured a time of pain and suffering.
Glory: Directed by Edward Zwick, Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group, 1989. 122 Minutes Reviewed by Mike Edward Zwick’s Glory is a movie in which the balance between entertainment and history was perfectly managed. He uses the letters sent by contemporary Col. Robert G. Shaw to his wealthy family back in Massachusetts as the historical foundation of the movie while imagining conversations between characters. Through Col. Shaw’s eye, we are able to uncover the birth, the development, and the end of the 54th Massachusetts Regiment, the first colored regiment fought in Civil War. Just like any other war movie, Glory has several battle scenes that were unpleasantly bloody, yet they managed to stay authentic.
The show Band of Brothers was produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks who, at the time, recently had success with a World War II film entitled Saving Private Ryan. Spielberg and Hanks used their expertise on war films to craft the exceptional television series Band of Brothers which originally aired on HBO in 2001. The show follows “Easy” Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, of the 101st Airborne Division, from the moment they begin their training to the moment their deployment ends. Throughout the show we see the men of “Easy” Company mature a thousand times over. The men experience love, loss, and death at rate that is inconceivable to someone that has never experienced the theatre of war.
