Paper 3 War of 1812 When Thomas Jefferson wrote in the letter two very important things that were by the English that led to the War of 1812. “The acts which produced the war were 1. the impressment of our citizens by their ships of war, and 2.” What Jefferson thought about this is that this was really awful because the English were looking forward to the Americans being divided from the states East of Hudson and being treated like animals. “The orders of council forbidding our vessel to trade with any country but England to obtain a special licence.” The meaning of this is that Jefferson thought that this was extremely horrific because they were reduced and they just wanted the same rights. “Madison lists the grievances justifying his call for war against Great Britain. They include interfering with trade on the high seas and inciting Indian attacks on the frontier.” Madison did want this; he wanted to start a war in 1812 because he wanted to have more power economically and he wanted better independence for the constitution and America. Some of the major events that occurred in Canada were “Canada thought this was their way to get England for what they saw of insults to the American flag impressment of seaman they thought Canada would be easy pickings.” This meant that since America's group for war was not organized in a way for them to win Canada was very important because in War 1812 different groups wanted to obtain a place as well for their material things and power for the British
