Warrior “Warrior; a brave or experienced fighter.” Judson was declared a warrior from day one. On September 15th, Judson’s brave parents discovered that he had congenital diaphragmatic hernia. CDH is a condition in which the fetal diaphragm, the muscle diving the chest and abdominal cavity, does not close completely. This diaphragm is developed at eight weeks. Parents typically find out within the first or second trimester that their child has CDH. CDH is most commonly found on the left side. Judson’s situation was the same. His heart was pushed under his right armpit. This disease caused his right lung to only develop around 15% and his left lung to barely develop. At this point, in December, the seriousness of his illness was discovered. The cause of CDH is unknown. The studies have shown that taking a bath in chemicals could possibly be the issue, but that is yet to be proven. Daily, 147 babies are born with CDH. That is every ten minutes. 40% of CDH warriors are born with other birth defects, most commonly congenital heart defect (CHD). The probability of the second child being born with CDH is 2%. CDH is an 1 in 2,500 chance. There are roughly 1,600 causes in the United States yearly. 50% of CDH Warriors do not survive. With that being said, 97% of money that goes towards CDH research is donated. 3% is government funded. Cherubs …show more content…
If the baby makes it through being born, the next step is being put on a ventilator. A ventilator is “an appliance for artificial respiration; a respirator.” Judson was born on January 30th. After being put on the ventilator, he was placed on ECMO. This is essentially life support for babies. “Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is a treatment that uses a pump to circulate blood through an artificial lung back into the bloodstream of a very ill baby. This system provides heart-lung bypass support outside of the baby's body.” Sadly, this is just the
