Since the moment the United States became an independent country, the government has been putting faces of important figures, such as presidents, on our currency. Andrew Jackson is a villain and clearly should not be on the US twenty dollar bill. There are two significant reasons why Andrew Jackson should not be on the twenty dollar bill. One of the reasons being Andrew Jackson owns slaves and the other reason being he signed the Indian Removal Act 1830, which led to the Trail of Tears. As a villain, Andrew Jackson has no business being on the twenty dollar bill of the United States.
Jackson is villainous because of his slave ownership. Andrew Jackson owned slaves and the number of slaves he owned increased over time. This is a fact that cannot be denied. Andrew Jackson forced Native Americans out of the only home they knew and adapted to. He sent 7,000 federal troops to take the Cherokee tribe to camps. After the Cherokee’s spent some time in the camps the soldiers took them on a four month march to the Indian Territory. It was a long and brutal journey and about 4,000 people died. The soldiers did not provide them with any food, shelter, or clothing in the rain and cold. The trail that the kids and men cried on was later known as the Trail of Tears. When the little survivors arrived at the Indian Territory they were faced wuth many other challenges, such as little to no money left. The Cherokee’s felt as if they had given up a part of them and left there only ever known homeland(American Stories, Pg. 372-373). Based on this evidence Andrew Jackson did something to the Native Americans that is unforgivable and he should never have been president becaus eof this awful
