Lying (being dishonest) and hiding things are considered to be betrayal and it destroys the trust between people. In the play, betrayal was the moral or the story that was being presented. Brutus did betray Caesar; he was gullible with the letters he got, which were really from Cassius and other citizens who disliked Caesar. Brutus thought he was being a patriot because he was persuaded by the letters that Caesar would not be a worthy leader and would treat people like slaves in a dictatorship. He betrayed Caesar because of his patriotism for Rome and wanting to not have it be in control under a dictator. Cassius and others confused the mind of Brutus into thinking something of which they were not sure. Brutus felt it was his duty to protect the people of Rome. So, he had to kill Caesar to do that. He had to kill Caesar to protect the citizens and Rome from dictatorship. It was the right thing to do or else Rome would've been under control of someone who was not worthy of being king, but he's a betrayer because he killed Caesar and he considered him a friend and trusted him. Rome will never know what would've really happened if Caesar was still alive, he could've been a good leader. Rome could've been under the rule of Caesar, but he didn't want Brutus to think he would be good so Cassius tricked Brutus by telling him lies so it was really Cassius's fault, not Brutus's. So him and other citizens made letters and sent them to Brutus anonymously complaining about how Caesar wouldn't be a worthy leader. Brutus was gullible to believe those lies and he went along with it knowing it was wrong. He could've gone with his gut and go by what he knows about Caesar and how he's treated him and others and compare that to how he would treat
