Greek mythology stands as one of the most captivating and long lasting legacies of the ancient world, captivating generations with tales of mighty gods, heroic quests, and epic battles. However, hidden in many aspects of these tales lies a connection to another ancient civilization: Ancient Egypt. Within a multitude of deities and mythological traditions are many parallels that sometimes intertwine with those of the Greeks. This research examines the remarkable similarities, shared themes, and cultural exchanges of Ancient Egypt that have developed and evolved Greek Mythology.
The Greeks had always admired the Egyptian culture that they used in their philosophy even before Socrates and Plato. Many elements of Egyptian proto-science affected the scientific discoveries made in the Greek Golden Age. The two civilizations' trade relations resulted in a transfer of cultural characteristics from Egypt to Greece. After a period of chaos known as the Bronze Age Collapse, the Egyptians continued to have a major influence on the early Greeks, particularly during the Greek Dark Ages, leaving a lasting mark on their development. The Minoans developed the first writing system on the Greek island of Crete by adapting the hieroglyphics of ancient Egypt. Religious ideas and aspects were also incorporated into Minoan religion. The first Greek statues look very inspired by Egyptian statues. The style of sculpting “ideal youth” was used in the Greek statues. The shapes and positions of the statues seemed like those of the Egyptian
