Was Jack the Ripper part of a royal conspiracy? Was he an Irish-American herb Doctor? Or was he a Polish barber?
Jack the Ripper was a notorious serial killer in the Whitechapel district of London’s East End who brutally mutilated and murdered at least five prostitutes from August 31st to November 9th 1888. All of the murders took place within a mile of each other and still keep investigators questioning who Jack the Ripper truly was. During the time of the Whitechapel murders several letters were supposedly sent by the killer to the London Metropolitan Police Service/Scotland Yard. Over the years there have been many suspects for Jack the Ripper including the famous Victorian painter Walter Sickert and even the grandson of Queen Victoria. Overall more than 100 suspects have been named since 1888. During the 1880s prostitution was legal so long as it didn’t cause a public disturbance. Therefore Prostitutes were extremely easy to get hold of as there were many brothels and low-rent lodging houses which provided sexual services. Once Jack the Ripper had chosen his victims he would bring them to a dark back street and mutilate their bodies. He removed their organs and placed them beside their bodies or in different parts to where they originated from. This was to humiliate the women and portray his strong hatred for females in general. In 2011 British detective Trevor Marriott was denied access to uncensored documents by the Metropolitan Police. The reason for the documents being withheld was because they had ‘protected information about police informants’ (Bio., 2012).
