To fill the open positions, Washington State in the Pacific North West has been identified as a potential manufacturing location. In making the decision, four major workforce demographic factors were considered. They are, the state’s job market and available labor force, leading business sectors in the state, cost of living, and work-life balance for employees. These factors were considered based on the future needs of the organization as well as the needs of our employees.
The Seattle, Washington job market is the fourth fastest growing job market in the country across a variety of jobs. The city of Seattle alone added over 78,000 jobs in 2015, which well exceeded the state’s job growth expectations (Puget Sound Business Journal, 2016). Technology jobs, like those needed for the manufacturing of Alfred devices, are in high demand in Washington State. The state is continuing to become the destination for technology jobs and technology companies. One of the reasons is, the state offers a lower cost of living compared to California and New Your (MyNorthWest.com, 2016).
Washington State also offers workers unique work-life balance opportunities. It has a well-developed transportation infrastructure, its cities offer various venues for enrichment and entertainment, and the natural diversity of the state offers the outdoors types everything from fishing to hiking and skiing, and a variety of water sports (Washington State, 2016).
