Water polo is considered the most challenging sport in the world, both physically and mentally. But, the water polo team at Central York High School has been rejected and ignored by all but the players and coaches on the team. While the team does have Central York’s name on the cap, the team gets nothing from the school district. Central York Water Polo deserves funding from the school district it represents because it represents Central York in Central Pennsylvania, helps people develop physical and mental strength, and has been rejected by the school for too long. Central York High School boasts the best water polo team in York County. The Boy’s Water Polo team won three league games during the Fall Season, leading to a mid-table finish; as well as attending multiple tournaments including Beast of the East. The Boy’s Water Polo team also has the sixth most goals in the Boys Central Pennsylvania League, at 113, and conceded less than four other teams in the league. Water polo is one of the most team oriented games, where the best team doesn’t necessarily always win. Team cohesion is a big part of the game, since players need to know what to do in a variety of situations; such as being a man down, or when to switch players on defense. Water polo also improves a player’s mentality and strategic thinking. If a player has a short fuse and gets angry very quickly, the player is going to get less playing time. Since players don’t want to get ejected from the game, they learn to keep a cool head, and not make rash decisions. Water polo also promotes strategic thinking. Players need to know when to switch from offence to defense, and vice versa. Players also need to know when to break away from their guy on offence, and when to switch players when outmatched on
