With the support of their families, William’s and Arthur’s motivation to accomplish this goal led them to fantastic high school basketball careers. From viewing the film, I found that I share William’s and Arthur’s determination. William, for his entire high school career, braved a 180 minute round trip commute to school and back. He spent three whole hours almost every day in transit to attend one
Because I’m the only one.” (p. 257). When the prejudice first started, Jeevin was understandably upset. However, he often talks to his mother “about everything” and his mother tells him that “that’s the only way [the other kids have got] to take [Jeevin] out of [his] game” (p. 258). He realizes during these conversations that the discrimination is being used to distract him from his skill, and uses his courage and love of basketball to continue persevering through these obstacles to improve his skills every day.

For years she worked in sports broadcasting, with the same commanding presence she displayed on the court. She would frequently interview male basketball stars like Michael Jordan and Shaquille O’Neal who knew her talent and success as a collegiate athlete. Doris Burke pointed out that “[to watch] those men were embracing a basketball person…who happened to be a woman, and treating her as equal, that is where society changes. ”17 Although she no longer plays basketball, she left a legacy on the court along with her fellow teammates at USC. In the 1983 NCAA championship against The Lady Techsters, The Women of Troy accomplished more than just a victory against the “politics of respectability”–they themselves embodied a rejection of this ideology.
Ever since he was little he was involved in many sports but his favorite one was baseball. “I have memories. I remember standing alone at first base-the only black man on the field. I had to fight hard against my loneliness, abuse, and the knowledge that any mistake I made would be magnified because I was the only black man out there.” (Robison 287).

Ever since its debut by gym teacher Dr. James Naismith in 1891 basketball has become a widely popularized team sport for both men and women across the nation. Though enjoyed by both men and women, women have struggled to attain the same respect in the sport as men, even though the women at the University of California had their first extramural game in 1892. The same trend continues in the NBA, National Basketball Association, and WNBA, Women’s National Basketball. The NBA started 70 years ago in 1946 while the WNBA began 20 years ago in 1996. The NBA continues to gain popularity, while the WNBA struggles to still be known.

This changes the purpose of sports from teaching tolerance, teamwork and sportsmanship to merely winning by all means.
A Response to “Do Professional Athletes Get Paid Too Much Money?” The thesis of this article is that professional athletes make way too much money for simply entertaining the public. Men and women in the military, who get paid very little, sacrifice their lives everyday and never know if they will get to see their families again, while professional athletes get paid substantially more to throw a ball in a hoop. Some athletes also take drugs or steroids, which is an awful example to teach our children, which could be the professional athletes of the future.
mohammed alqarni Traditional Values or Changes Perspectives Traditional values and norms are always important within the society where parents form an important part of the children’s responsibilities as they grow old. However, now there are changes opinions and circumstances within the society leading to changes perspectives about the role and duties of children towards their parents as they grow old. “What Do Grown Children Owe Their Parents?” , Jane English goes against traditional values by arguing that grown children have duties to their parents only if they are on friendly terms with them—and even then duties to parents are not stronger than duties to friends. The white supremacy that flooded America in the 19th and early 20th century is no longer seen in the sporting world. This paper looked at sports through the lens of an individual athlete named Muhammad Ali (who definitively changed history for African-American people in the United States), as well as looked at sports as a whole throughout history. Through statistics and reports, proof has demonstrated that the sporting world has developed to give more of an opportunity for African-American athletes to compete than ever before. Athletics creates a platform that gives athletes an opportunity to be more than just an athlete. An opportunity to stand up for what they believe in and bring attention to some of the problems of the world.

Little things like this can make woman not want to even put in their full effort into things like sports because they aren’t valued or treated the same as men. Woman in sports would also be called “young ladies” or “girls” by commentators, while men were called by their first or last name. This is another thing that would make women feel like they are inferior to men, and would also make woman not want to perform at their full potential.
