“We should meet abuse by forbearance. Human nature is so constituted that if we take absolutely no notice of anger or abuse, the person indulging in it will soon weary of it and stop.” Mahatma Gandhi. This quote means that if we take absolutely no action whatsoever to any abuse towards us, the person doing it will eventually stop. Personally I disagree with this quote as i'm sure many of you guys do too, but for those of you who agree, i'm here to change that.

Tolerance doesn't always lead to the abuse getting weary and stopping. For example a woman or a man just endures getting beat, the abuser won't necessarily stop or feel the need to stop his behaviour because of the tolerance. Instead he or she might actually go further with it. A good example of that is bullying, usually a bully bullies because it makes him feel more superior or to look cool in front of his friends. If a government is oppressing and abusing its people, if the people don't stand up against it, why would the government stop? I'm not saying to respond with violence but with peaceful protest. The people should collectively stand up and respond to any form of oppression. Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King jr fought back using non-violent resistance to obtain their rights. Nelson Mandela ended Apartheid in South Africa, Martin Luther king jr fought for equality. He tried to make people see that no matter the color of your skin, you had every right to be treated equally and have the same opportunities as everyone else. Same goes with Gandhi and Malcolm X. They all fought for their civil rights in one way or another but do you think if they just ignored it and let the institutional oppression keep going the world will look the same
