What Are Mrs. Jones Character Traits

Langston Hughes is one of the best writers of the 20th Century. “Thank You M’am” is a book about an older woman who gets robbed at night by a boy who wants some shoes. Later, you find out that the woman’s name is Mrs.Jones and she helps the boy (Roger) by feeding him and teaching him life lessons. Also, throughout the book Mrs.Jones is caring, brave, and trusting. One of Mrs. Jones character traits is caring. Right after Roger tries to rob Mrs. Jones she says, “Um-hum! Your face is dirty. I got a great mind to wash your face for you. Ain’t you got nobody home to tell you to wash your face. (pg.110) Mrs. Jones basically cared so much about people she offered to wash the face of the person who tried to rob her. Once Mrs. Jones and Roger made it to her home the story explains, “She heated some lima beans and ham she had found in the icebox, and made the cocoa, and set the table.”(pg.112) Mrs. Jones cooked Roger food after she had found out he hadn’t ate that whole day. …show more content…

While walking home from work Mrs. Jones was being attacked by Roger and the story said, “The large woman simply turned around and kicked him right square in his blue jeaned sitter. Then she reached down, picked the boy up by his shirt front, and shook him until his teeth rattled.”(pg.110) Mrs. Jones was brave enough to fight a boy late at night. When Mrs. Jones made it home with Roger (the boy who robbed her) the story says, “Mrs. Jones got up and went behind the screen.
