Summary In the Read Aloud Handbook Chapter 9 by Jim Trelease (2006), Mr. Trelease discusses the issue of Television and Children. He starts Chapter 9 with a story about a single mother raising two young boys in the heart of Detroit, Michigan. The single mother is Sonya Carson and her youngest son is Mr. Ben Carson known today as the leading pediatric neurosurgeon and current Republican nominee for President of the United States. Mr. Trelease (2006) mentions in his article, how Mrs. Carson made her boys study, and in turn their grades improved; by the time Ben graduated from high school he was “third in his class” (p. 1).
In the documentary “When Kids Get Life” by Ofra Bikel we see five men who were sentenced to life in prison for committing crimes in their teens. We hear the stories of how it happened, why it happened, and what life is like for them today. This documentary sheds light on the battle that juveniles face when they commit crimes and the judicial system. This documentary relates heavily in the material we learn because although it is about teenagers who receive life in prison, the judicial system plays a key role.
Aparna after each session spent supporting with the children, Aparna reports to the teacher which includes information about how the children behaved whilst working. If Aparna have had to use any sanctions, Aparna informs to the teacher. , if children have behaved and participated well, or produced some good work, I also include the rewards I have given them e.g. stickers, showing their work to the head teacher and five minutes playing outside, similarly informing that child that she/he would have to go back to his classroom instead of joining in with the planned activity if continued to behave in a negative way.
"Turn off the Television and Read" was written by Albert Hodapp. His main idea of this article is to encourage parents with kids that reading has a greater impact on children than television. He believes that reading at a young age benefits children's intelligently, physically, and sustainability significantly. He uses rhetorical devices to appeal the audience to the same feelings. Hodapp uses pathos, logos, and ethos as rhetorical devices to display that watching television affect children's behavior, education, and health.
The purpose for this chapter is to explain how technology such as television affects children and parents. Children
When a child is going through a difficult time such as a family break up it is important to put the child’s needs first because if you don’t the child may not be able to achieve their full potential. A way to do this is by having a child centred practice and planning around a child, so that the routine fits around the child and their individual needs are planned for. In my placement the practitioners would plan out what they are going to do, while making sure individual needs are taken into consideration. It is important to work closely with other professionals when planning for transitions because they would be able to help provide the appropriate support the child will need, this can be done by working in partnership with professionals that can help with that transition and coming up with a plan or routine to follow to support the child.
Every child has a right to protection as they need to be protected from harm. this harm could be from accidents such as falling over or from deliberate abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence. By protecting children from these we are therefore protecting them from harm and this is known as child protection. Child protection is important as we should all be trying to make sure children don’t encounter harm. However, there are different levels of harm and there are some children who may fall into different categories which will result in them being monitored more closely as we are trying to make sure they are protected from much more serious harm that isn’t accidental.

They have the right to be safe and looked after and children have the right to be protected from harm, injury, exploitation by those who look after them. Education Act 2002 governing bodies, head teachers, local education authority and those who work in schools to work together ensure the safeguard of children and are free from harm. During the beginning of modern Europe, there were conflicting views on the proper way to view children. Previously in history, the infant mortality rate was very high, so kids were treated more like adults and were often neglected because odds were they would die. There was a resounding view that kids should be treated harshly in order to become strong. Then in the seventeenth century, the idea of being tender and gentle to your kids was introduced. The way in children were brought up was influenced by assumptions made on both old and new schools of thought.

It is important that children are able to receive holistic care while in a play environment, both inside and outside. Some of the principles which would apply to both indoor and outdoor play include a child centred practice, ensuring the child 's welfare and safety, promoting a child 's rights, and enabling a child to reach their full potential. It is important that we provide a child centred practice, as it promotes a child 's learning and development through play. By having a child centred approach, we should support the children giving them guidance, but to allow the opportunities for them to learn independently, instead of taking over an activity and showing them. It is human nature that step parents have a hard time expressing love or showing salacity towards children who are not biologically theirs or related to them, and it is also understandable that residing in a home with children who are not biologically yours, to help raise can be very frustrating and challenging. With that said, I support Daly and Wilson’s view on their article “Violence against Stepchildren”. However, that doesn’t mean that stepparents are solely responsible for the high rate of abuse shown towards stepchildren. Research by Richard J. Gelles and John W. Harrop shows that single parents are also highly responsible for violence towards their children. I agree that children who grow up in single parent/stepparent families are at greater risk for child abuse and violence more so, then if they were residing in a two-parent, nuclear, biological family environment.
