Composer’s use of distinctively visual elements is to influence the way we interpret the image that is shown to us. The visuals shown within “Run Lola Run” released in 1998, is a strange film by Tom Tykwer who uses very strong and exceptional images to portray a suspenseful and fast pace movie. A related text we got was “The Scream” by Edvard Munch which shows Tykwer uses many techniques to convey a specific meaning; he tends to use images, symbols and motifs to tell the story rather than using dialogue. The film uses several unique and effective visual elements to convey various themes and ideas for the film. Love is the reason why she is risking her life to save her boyfriend. In the opening scene the viewer learns about their relationship where Manni calls Lola to say that she let him down not being there at the right place or time. As a result of love Lola is indomitable to doing anything to save Manni, including things such as robbing a store, or even robbing her own father’s bank. The scene where Manni is robbing the store, Lola and him are still able to communicate with each other through glass windows conveying a strong love. Composer uses multiple visual elements to represent love. Chance shows how Lola’s and Manni’s will end the movie together and how the outcome will be. Within the movie Lola has three lives which cause her to have three parts with the same situation if she does not complete it within the first two. She has three chances to do it right and complete her task or she fails. Through each section she meets new people and Tykwer uses colourful montages which rapidly present the potential future of the individual she just met or seen which usually ends in death. A spiral is used a lot as a symbol; it was used for the animation, the stairs and also the confusing choices which Lola and Manni have to face in all three of the runs. For Lola she must choose her options wisely to go in her favour and Manni’s. Linking the spirals to the painting, the painting is filled with spirals and curved
