It was created for a specific purpose and usually carries out its purpose except for a select few times when it has failed. There have been questions about this form of government and ideas to create a new form of government. But the founding fathers created it for a reason and has only failed to achieve its objective a select few times. The election has been debated a lot by other parties and people due to concerns about its fairness of voting and representation of the people, but also the popular vote's impact on the election process. But in some cases, the electoral college has not determined a clear winner for presidency. One notable example is in the election between Rutherford B. Hayes and Samuel Tilden. Once the election results were disputed, a special commission was formed to decide a clear winner. It was a long, complex and painful process. One of the more famous examples was in the election of 2000 between George W. Bush and Al Gore, the election came down to the state of Florida and the decision eventually was made by the Supreme Court. Another famous close decision was the presidential election between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon. Kennedy won both the popular vote and electoral college vote. Kennedy took a lead in the vote because of his campaign strategy which was fairly new to that time period, where he broadcast his campaigns on television and made an even greater impact on the media and population.
