The Founding Fathers discuss the pros and cons extensively throughout the musical. One of the pros of independence is that the colonies get to retain all of their resources that they have. They won’t have to give a percent of whatever the colonists make or buy. The colonies will be free of taxes, oppression, and will regain their rights as humans. There are also many cons to the idea of independence. In addition to losing the support of the British military against foreign attackers, the colonies will slowly drift apart from each other. Each colony has different ideas and goals in mind. The South wants to have slaves while the North wants to release them. If the British are gone, the colonies will fight against each other because now without the British, they are able to do what they want. Another con is that the current peace they have with England will be lost. Thousands of American lives will be lost if they fight against England.
