When an individual utters the words “United States”, many phrases, images, and ideals come to mind. The statement, “Land of the free, home of the brave”, is most commonly associated with the nation. Many people, regardless of their background, view the country as the pinnacle of freedom that distills the “American dream” into the mind of its citizens. When the country Saudi Arabia is brought into discussion, the conversation almost entirely changes. In fact, one may use the Kingdom as a primary example of a polar opposite of the United States. The fact that Saudi Arabia possesses a Monarchy and declares a national religion fully contrasts with what people know as American life. However, with further research, it can be discovered that there are more similarities beyond face value. At the government level, both the United States and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have three branches of government. Although the law of the land vastly differs, there are executive, judicial, and legislative branches instilled to apply it within the two countries. Moreover, both the United States and Saudi Arabia empower the executive branch to appoint members of the judicial and legislative branches. Likewise, both nations are divided into either districts or states, each being assigned a governor. Government aside, both countries are major influential players in their geographical regions.
