The Fall of the Western Roman Empire

The Western Roman Empire was an incredible empire, but nothing that amazing lasts forever. Several problems within Rome contributed to the fall, including their corrupt political system, economics, tragic diseases, and the attacks of foreign invaders.
One of the main reasons that caused the fall of the Western Roman Empire was their political issues. There were many unfit, and greedy emperors that ruled the republic. There was no system in place to replace an emperor, so these emperors got their place in power through adoptive parents, birth parents, or even their uncles. Some emperors were assassinated by their Praetorian Guard for money or position. Civil wars broke out within Rome. Legions fought legions to be emperor. Citizens rebelled against the corrupt government. Taxes were raised, and the living conditions were getting poorer and poorer. Political issues were one of the problems that led to the fall if the Western Roman Empire. …show more content…

Legions demanded higher salaries, and the taxes were then raised for the citizens. The citizens were growing a deep desire to purchase more goods from other empires. There was a lack of economic growth within Rome. Pirates were stealing goods, and ships on the Mediterranean Sea. There were high tariffs, taxes on imported goods. Rome was not conquesting any new areas, causing a lack of gold being imported into the empire. Therefor causing there less gold coins being produced. The price of items are beginning to rise, as the value drops. Citizens are now bartering, instead of selling goods with money.
