The Family Bowl

Bang, my grandfather hits another strike ball right in front of me. The crisp touch from the fingers rolling off the ball made a popping noise just before the pins went down one by one. The next ball looked quite similar: it was thrown not too hard but just the right speed. It was thrown right in the gap and this time the pins went down simultaneously. Bowling is a skill that my family has been doing generations ago. My great grandfather was very poor living in the city of Chicago when Bugsy Moran ( a mobster) and his goons roamed the city. My great grandfather bowled at an elite level and could have become a professional bowler with the amazing talent he had. However, he had to work and decided that bringing home meals to his family was more important. My great grandfather started the line of generations of bowling that passed on to my grandfather and later me. Bowling is a skill that most people cannot excel at without a lot of training. I know that my life has been changed. I notice it change lives around me. Bowling is something that I have determined is my way to escape all the anger and anxiety that goes into my mind for reasons that are unknown. The bowling alley is a place where I feel comfortable to express myself and where people accept me for who I am. For my grandfather it was a way to have fun. My grandfather liked to go to the bowling alley for the same reasons I do. The key to my grandfather’s success is his composure. I want to be like my grandfather and have the same composure that makes the great bowlers great. Composure and accuracy comes with time. I want to be a great bowler but at the same time I want to enjoy myself with my fellow bowling league mates. Bowling creates a safe environment where I feel welcomed by other bowlers and helps me express myself in the way I enjoy
