What does it mean to be free? In our society today, freedom gives citizens the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hinderance or restraint. Our American heritage diverges from cultural values, norms, belief systems, and the development of social forces. Free will is the driving force of our nation which allows diversity among social statuses, social classes, and ethic groups. Our responsibility for preserving it, rebuttals the fact that each and every one of us should be open, accepting, and understanding to ones values of credence or race. During that time they segregated schools for blacks only, transportation for blacks only, and even water fountains for blacks only. Picturing my life during this era makes me grateful for the life that I'm blessed to live now. I have the same goals and opportunities that any minority should have. Freedom of speech gave African Americans a voice that seek to be heard through obstacles and short comings. Powerful figures in that era included people like Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, and Malcolm X, who stood up against injustices in our society. There declaration to freedom through their actions and voices will live in our lives and history books forever. In similar fashion, growing up as a young teen in a society that is heavily driven by technology has a huge effect on the way I view our world and the importance of freedom within our speech. Technology gives people expression. Through sites like Facebook, twitter, and many more, a’lot of our social and political views are constructed through the following of others. Major examples include, celebrities, political leaders, religious advocates, and family values. The influence of others seems to be just one click
