Men created words in order to communicate with each other. So how can we be made out of something we built up ? It just sounds paradoxal when we think about it. But truth is, the words we use tend to define something about us, as individuals. The words and expressions we choose, the way we talk (volume of the voice, tonality), our body language..., every little detail in the way we express ourselves is a clue of who we are. The human spirit is being fed with words as we grow older, therefore languages help us building our own ideas and convictions. But people come from different cultures and different backgrounds and have built up their minds with different words which can have different meanings. Saint Martin de Tours was a fourth century bishop who is the patron saint of France. I come from a Christian family, and rather than making me believe in God or in an extra powerful guy who lives hundreds of feet upon our heads, this religion gave me values. A legend says that Saint Martin de Tours gave half of his cloak to a homeless man during the winter. Sharing, helping, and giving are values that Christianism transmitted to me and which I am very familiar to. Although I could have been an evil child, I have always carred about others, and I can’t stand the idea of injustice. That’s probably what pushed me to do volunter work at « la Croix Rouge », in order to collect money for the poor. Brochot comes from the middle of France, the Puy De Dome region and probably has a meaning but is, for some reason, unknown. But to me, the fact that the meaning of my last name is unknown means a lot. Since I was a child, I have always been unsure. Unsure about what to eat, what sweater to wear, and what career to pursue. Their complexity and diversity make them hard to use and even harder when it comes to define ourselves. That is why I use lots of metaphores. I want to simplify things that are happening around me. I can’t deal with that much vocabulary, even more when it comes to English which is my second language. I need to substitute words with images. There is a very well known French citation which is also a metaphore that says : « N’imitez rien ni personne, un lion qui copie un lion devient un singe » / « Do not imitate anything or anyone. A lion that imitates another lion becomes a monkey » (Victor Hugo). Comformism transforms people into clowns who lie to themsleves and to the outside world.
