In the story “Marigolds” by Eugenia Collier there is a lot of imagery and diction. The imagery was mainly focused on how the town looks and the contrast between the town and Miss Lottie’s house. In the text is states how that the only beautiful part of the house is the marigolds, “Miss Lottie's marigolds were perhaps the strangest part of the picture. Certainly they did not fit in with the crumbling decay of the rest of her yard”(Collier 23). This quote is trying to say that her house was a very old house that no one really cared for but, the marigolds were always taken care of and that was the only beauty in the whole yard.

The constellation I have chosen for this assignment is Leo Major. I 've chosen it mostly because of previous studies I have done on it. Leo, being one of twelve zodiacs, is located in between Cancer (to the west) and Virgo (to the east). Its name originates from the Latin root for "lion". The Chrysanthemums Literary Analysis One of the themes of “The Chrysanthemums” by John Steinbeck is gender inequality. In this short story, the main character Elisa Allen was a strong, smart woman who was stuck being a common housewife. Elisa wishes she could go out and be like the tinker, sleeping under the stars and adventuring every day of her life. The setting shapes the mood and tone of a story and has a great affect on what happens in a story. The setting influences the events that take place, how the characters interact and even how they behave. Settings show where and how the character lives, what they do, and what they value. Characters have a relationship with the setting just as much as they do with other characters in the story. This is seen in the effects the setting has on the development of the Character Elisa in the story “The Chrysanthemums.”

The piece of artwork I have painted illustrates lotus flowers protecting a colorful, modern looking, kindertransport bus from the glass falling from the sky. The lotus flower symbolizes compassion due to its pink and red color, they surround the vehicle not allowing the darkness to reach it, as the bus symbolized innocent children. The bus contains all the colors of the rainbow, representing the innocence and love the youth still contain, therefore the flowers are preserving the youthfulness of the young Jews. The dark clouds and sky demonstrate the darkness and destruction of the Nazis regime. Additionally, sharp pieces of glass fall from the sky as the flowers hug the children shielding them from the danger, saving the vehicle from harm.
Purple Hibiscus, written by Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie, is a novel set in post-colonial Nigeria where the protagonist, 15-year-old Kambili struggles growing up torn between two contrasting beliefs; Igbo traditionalism and western Catholicism. Religion as many believe is the hope in a power greater than ones self. It is also a means of worship, moreover as means of people uniting together as one and believing in one God. Religion is a very important aspect and can certainly impact and influence a person’s mentality. Adichie uses two conflicting religions to show the development of Kambili’s character and maturity, as well as explore the tension that is forced unto the her throughout the novel.
