Tommy Wirkola has been directing movies since his first film Kill Bulji in 2007, and his most recent, What Happened To Monday (Tiffany, Kaitlyn). In only eleven years of directing, he’s been very successful. The original script written by Max Botkin made it to the blacklist in 2010 (Staff, Indiewire). From there, there was a gender swap, a rewrite, and change in title. After the threat, Monday strangely goes missing, while some of Cayman’s Aryan thugs come after the remaining siblings. Cayman makes the mission to destroy the seven as a secret. Then admits, “the survival of these women will destroy my credibility!” As Cayman’s evil henchmen go about destroying the seven in the most gruesome ways, the special effects are exploited. Afterward hee-hawing all the way back to the bank. Tommy’s movie, however, is different in the bold lack of cognizance: the film not only doesn’t realize how idiotic it is, it gives the sense that it thinks it’s indeed smart. It’s a rather hectic conglomeration of campy, complex and enjoyable plotting, doubtful philosophy, and constant scenes of Noomi Rapace passing food and talking to herself. Without a doubt one of the most advanced movies I have seen in terms of special effects, acting, and plot. If you find this intriguing, and you’re looking for a new movie to watch ten times over and notice something new, then What Happened To Monday is the movie for
