What Is Amir's Perspective In The Kite Runner

Amir’s perspective is used for the majority of The Kite Runner because he is the only main character that witnessed major events throughout the story. Some of these events include what happened in the alley, Baba and Amir escaping to America, etc. Other characters knew these things happened, but they weren’t there and didn’t actually witness them. This story being in Amir’s perspective insures that the reader understands what happened and they aren’t receiving information from a secondary source. It also makes deaths such as Baba’s and Hassan’s even more devastating to the reader. The only person whose perspective can be used is Amir, because Baba eventually dies, and when the two of them were traveling to America, no other main characters were with them. Had this story been written in Hassan’s point of view, things would have been very different. The reader would know exactly how he dies, what he was thinking in the alley, and how he viewed Amir both before and after Hassan was raped. It would also be revealed why Hassan never hesitated to take the blame for Amir, and if he knew Amir didn’t actually see Hassan as his friend. The only information Amir gets of Hassan’s life comes from Rahim. Had this story been written in Hassan’s point of view, a lot of information about other characters would have been lost also. For example, was she thinking the same thing Amir was when they were under the veil during their wedding? Did she love Amir as much as he loved her? Did she know he had a history he wasn’t sharing with her even after she shared her’s? The only person who knows the real answers to these questions is the author of this book. Not unlike Hassan, Soraya didn’t witness several of the important scenes in this story. Because of this, her perspective couldn’t be used for the entire book, because it simply wouldn’t make any
