According to the author it was a small space took by the local activist from the university of Berkley which failed to improve it after “demolish some houses”(5). According to the author they created a space that would bring more people to join their causes. The author describes this action the “beginning of the end of the student movement”. For the extremist activists it was a military battle against the citizen that they were supposed to defend.

Journal Entry: America The Beautiful In the documentary, America The Beautiful by Darryl Roberts, he is trying to understand what causes us obsess with physical beautify and not appreciate what truly makes women gorgeous. Throughout the documentary, Roberts follows twelve-year-old Gerren's modeling career and makes inferences about how a child is a new and impossible standard for older women to live up to. During the duration of the film; impossibly skinny and unhealthy models, beauty cosmetics, and marketing advertisements are analyzed to try to decipher what society makes women conform.
Michelle’s historical context derives from numerous ideals. One of which she had been unaware of until the year of 2008, when she found out her direct relation to a slave on Friendfield plantation in Georgetown, South Carolina. Her great- great grandfather, Jim Robinson, was one of over 200 slaves on this plantation in the early 1800s (Bond, 2012). “Michelle has said that knowing the truth about her family history has helped her understand her upbringing, and in a larger sense how the legacy of slavery continues to impact the lives of African Americans to this day” (Bond, 2012, p.2). Michelle herself recognizes the importance of the historical context to her own life and the lives of other African Americans.

The medicinal properties of literature are a sacred belief of the Stó:lō peoples. The power of poetry helps relieve the chronic wounding created by the colonizers. Maracle begins by addressing how the movement of colonialism caused irreversible intergenerational trauma among the Indigenous communities. She shames the Canadian government because none of the real people who evoked the damage had ever faced confrontation.

Everyone has their flaws as no human being is perfect nor will one ever be perfect either. “There are plenty of beautiful women that do not fit the projected form of beauty that we have been taught to idolize. Still, women constantly attempt to change the way their bodies are meant to be, in order to look like the edited models and airbrushed actresses we see in our favorite shows, movies and magazines.” (Curly) Women working behind magazine companies are playing apart in the downgrading of women as well and some don’t even know it. An average magazine cover is either a woman known to society as a very pretty or attractive woman, with a face full of makeup and on the side bringing attention to the main article of something like “find out the simple way to get this amazing body or how to lose weight in 10 days.”

It also contains a decapitated woman dressed in a bathing suit who is sitting in the center of the piece with a light bulb replaced as her head. On top of the light bulb is what seems to be a cut out of a female hairstyle. It is also made upon a tan colored background giving the photomontage an antique look. Furthermore, the piece also contains a boxer that appears to be emerging from the tire. This combination of cut outs gives the impression that women were progressing slowly and that society was industrializing as well.
Historical Context The Gospel of Luke has no explicitly specified time that is was written. Some say between 58 and 65 AD, while others say as late as 70 to 90 AD. While they may not agree on the time, Luke’s gospel is widely viewed as the most meticulous and detailed, including many facts that the other authors failed to include, as a result, it is also the longest. Luke collated his information from a variety of sources and tried to come to more logical, reasonable and accurate ways of personifying Jesus.
In the year 1998 women would strive to be perceived as the “perfect” woman with flawless skin and a skinny body. In the 1990’s technology changed how we would perceive women forever. With this new technology we now have access to digital editing and other online editing tools that women can use to eliminate all of their imperfections. With these tools our society put a huge pressure on girls to look like the people in the magazines. The problem with this, the girls in the magazines were not real.
Figure 1 displays a simplistic background with minimal cover lines and the central focus of a woman who is depicted as being passive and docile. This is evident in the way she shies away from the camera by creating a sophisticated ambience about her. The costuming shows a limited amount of skin, allowing the face to become the focus of the cover. The long sleeves and the high neck collar connotes a conservatism - something which women were expected to follow due to the male perception of an ideal wife. This enforces the targeted audience during the timeframe to use the magazine as the main beauty standard.
