In the novel Of Mice And Men by John Stienbeck, the hierarchy of the characters in Crooks’ room is Curley’s wife, Candy, Lennie, and Crooks. This is shown by the way each of these characters interact with each other. Crooks is shown to have the least power because he lost his battle with Lennie. Crooks tried to get into Lennie’s head, which worked, until Lennie became violent. Crooks, seeing that he couldn’t compete, backed off, showing that Lennie had power over him.
The concept of power is analogous to the deceptive appearance of a rose. Although people are allured to the blossom due its silky petals and crimson color, much like they are attracted to power because of the opportunities it withholds, the blossom also contains thorns, representative of the corruption one can create by abusing their powers. Consequently, it is no surprise that those who hold great power often become corrupt because they utilize their powers for their own selfish desires. There is a great responsibility that is attributed to possessing power, and those who fail to use their influence with good intentions tend to fall victim to their own selfish needs. Meanwhile, powerlessness is far less corruptive than power.
The power of greed can destroy people and their wonderful and simple lives. It is not a physical power that physically kills you but rather a power that gets in your soul and destroys you from the inside. Greed is shown throughout The Pearl. The author showed greed throughout the book by using foreshadowing, symbolism, and characterization. John Steinbeck, the author, used all of these devices to show that greed was able to take over people 's souls and change their state of minds because of the pearl’s ability to change people.
Round 1:A2 Steinbeck portrays the power that each character has,where it comes from, what they do with it,and how it either hurts them or helps them. Lennie has lots of strength, but he doesn't know how to use it. Lennie’s strength gets him into trouble because he kills animals and when he is scared he doesn't let go of the object in his hands. George has the power over Lennie because he is always getting himself into trouble that george has to get him out of it. Lennie relies on george to help him on what to say or to say it for him.
There is not just one theme in “Of Mice and Men”. In this story there are arguably several themes. Power in “Of Mice and Men”, is my interpretation of the theme of the story. This novella revolves around an informal hierarchy of the characters who establish their authority in different arguments and situations in this story. From low to high, every character in “Of Mice and Men” fits somewhere in their unspoken hierarchy.
For centuries, people have been afraid or feared of a person who has more power. While our society is not quite there yet, Mice and Men story allows readers to imagine how fear of someone who has power has been a problem with this society. It shows how a small and smart man called George and his disabled, big and huge friend Lennie and how they feared and suffered a lot with Lennies ́s disability to face other people and find a job to buy their own dream ranch. Steinbeck's message about power is that people react differently in positions of power because in Of Mice and Men readers see characters with little to no power, who responsibly use their power, and those who abuse their power.
“Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.” says Abraham Lincoln. I personally agree with this idea, for many reasons which include the following. The first reason I agree with this idea, because it shows in Of Mice and Men, when Curley's wife knows she has power so, she presents her real character by using racism on Crooks, calling Candy old, and calling Lenny stupid. Without power she would be absent, fearful, and desperate, which would tuck away her real character. The second reason I agree with this belief, is that I have even experienced this with my siblings.
In the novel of “Of Mice and Men” power and friendship is the very bases of the story. There are many people with power in the book but I specifically was interested in Curley’s power. Curley is the son of the Ranch’s boss and he is very spoiled. He does not listen to rules and usually gets away with any trouble he makes or gets into.
Power can be explored in various ways by different authors, John Steinbecks, "Of Mice And Men" and Armin Greders, "The Island" are two works of literature that both express ways of power throughout the stories. Through the portrayal of Characters and Relationships. In addition to this, the use of power in Authority, Vulnerability and Fear are present in both texts. Despite the difference in time periods and setting, both authors are able to showcase these themes of power and have relate to ubiquitous times.

This quote interests me because the quote itself does not say much but the meaning of the quote does. Some people may only agree with the quote, and others may only disagree. I agree and disagree with quote in a few different ways.

Power can turn a person into something they never dreamed they would become because it starts to take over their lives and people do not know what to do with so much power. In 1919, John Steinbeck enrolled at Stanford University and over the next six years, Steinbeck would be in and out of school but eventually he dropped out of school for good in 1925.
Galbraiths, The Anatomy of Power is comparable to Bertrand Russell’s Forms of Power, as in it explains different kinds of power. Galbraith goes more in depth as to say what kinds of power there is and who uses it. He gives three names to the two topics as well. I think the authors ideas are right on target of what power is. Power has a broad definition; many people understand what it is but also see it slightly different.
