Being a police officer, John does many things that he gets away with that other residents of Canada con not get away with. John’s position within society led him to make poor decisions. Above all, John’s position within the society assured people he is a principled person, correspondingly leading him to make poor decisions. Many things the ordinary people would be confronted with, John does not encounter. John has a problem with decision-making throughout the book, an issue that led John into enormous trouble.

John decides that even though the army will remind him of what happened, it will make him feel at home and will help serve his country. John says farewell to his friends until next time, but the next day the police show up at John’s door 2 days before he goes back and they say that they found evidence of him being at the crime of the Cortez investigation. He is taken by the cops, but his detective friends help him get out and he returns the following day to the army where he feels at home, safe, and with his friends. John returns back to New York three years later and when he comes back he is being hunted by many gang leaders and many of the drug dealer’s bosses because of what hi did when he was looking for his wife. John is skilled enough to take them down and reunites with his detective friends where they work together now.
He was a successful attorney he says that he played the people like a "puppet master ". It says, "And the upper courts to beat the claim of the crippled the window and orphan And made a fortune." This shows you that he was good at his job and that he made lots of money after winning his case. The poet refers to John as a mean person " but the rats devoured my hearts And a snake made a nest in my skull. " This is saying that his work may of caused him to be that way also his greed.

Barabus in the jew of malta is an extremely revengeful and ambitious character. The jew of malta appears as a victim in the beginning of the play. At the very beginning, barabus is shown as a unbelievably wealthy man and extremely shrewd and interested just in his own contentment. Barabus’s vicious evilness is more and more present in his behaviour.
