Mary’s inspiration for writing had come during that summer she spent in Switzerland, Mary and Percy had joined a group of friends one rainy day. Mary, Percy, Jane Clairmont, Lord Byron, and John Polidori entertained themselves by reading each other scary stories. It was Lord Byron’s idea to have them all write a horror story of their own. This is what inspired Mary Shelley to write, her now famous novel, Frankenstein. When finished, her novel was released under an anonymous author. Though many thought it was Percy Bysshe Shelley who wrote the novel, it had become a huge success.
