As David gained victory after victory in battle, his popularity among the Israelites kept increasing and so did Saul’s hatred and his personal insecurity. Saul’s became so insecure and full of fear that even at the dining table he began sitting with his back to the wall fearing a military coup from his army..lest some one strike him dead from behind.
Inspite of being his son-in law, Saul now could no longer conceal his growing envy and hatred towards David .He started giving open instructions to his son Jonathan and his attendants to kill David. Soon after Saul made another attempt to kill him.
