1) David is anointed
The Lord having repented of having chosen Saul as King, sends Samuel to search for a successor. The purpose of Samuel 's journey is not revealed to Saul.
When Samuel arrived to Bethlehem, the elders were frightened. This indicates that during the time of Saul 's rejection and decline Samuel still retained much of his authority as a judge and as a priest. Samuel sanctified Jesse and his sons to prepare them to stand before God in worship. Saul was tall and handsome. He was a man who impressed by his good looks. Samuel might have been looking for someone who resembled Saul to be the next king of Israel, but God warned him not to judge only by appearances, for appearance does not reveal what people really are, nor their …show more content…

3) David vs. Goliath
The kingdom of Israel, ruled by Saul at that time, was at war with the Philistines. These counted on a leader called Goliath, of enormous stature. Confident of his great physical strength, he challenged the armies of Israel for forty days, so that they would choose their best man, who would face Goliath. This would decide the battle and the defeated people would be 'slave ' of the winner. David was sent by his father to visit his brethren who were in the camp, bring them food, and inquire about their condition. Being there, listen to the challenge of Goliath.
The Bible depicts David as a "shepherd," preoccupied with defending his flocks from the attacks of wild beasts, using his talent and with the help of the staff and the sling. David offers himself, before King Saul, as a volunteer to deal with the Philistine leader. He is dressed in the armor of Saul himself, but when he is not used to wearing armor, he disposes of it, goes to the battlefield with his sling and his staff and picks up 5 smooth stones from a stream. Goliath makes fun of David 's staff, but once the fight is over, David manages to defeat his enemy by slinging a stone, which hits the giant 's front. Once fallen, David rushes towards him and cuts his head with his own sword, finishing him off and takes his head and weapons
