Tannen’s point of view is about the different ways men and women used language. Men and women use the same words and phrases which mean very different things by them to a point which suggests speaking different languages. Tannen’s quote, “Yours is not a real marriage; your ill chosen profession has resulted in an unfortunate arrangement,” was due to the height of complacence since the wife avoided his misfortune (Tannen, 1995). Intimacy has been a key of connection whereby individuals tend to negotiate complex networks of friendships thus minimizing differences and trying to reach consensus and avoiding the appearance of superiority which leads to differences.
