The epic poem,The Odyssey is written by Homer and translated by Robert Fitzgerald. Homer is writing the poem by things he has read and heard about in this time. The poem is about the things Odysseus went through during and after the Trojan War. The Odyssey relates two thousand fifteen because Telemachus has to deal with his father being gone. During the whole book/Poem Odysseus, Telemachus, and Penelope are suffering for the loss of one another.They are suffering because they do not know if each other are okay or waiting for them. It relates in the way how military children today have to deal with their parents being away and have to grow up without them being there. Not knowing if they are safe where they are. They have to wonder if they are coming home, when and if they are still alive. He has had to become the man of the house like most kids today have to make up for the fact that a parent is missing and has to do the things they would normally help with. Telemachus has struggled to do that because he has been without a father for so long and he was so young when Odysseus left. Not being able to communicate with them, and not know if they are alive or dead. It is a lot easier today than what Telemachus had it , due to the advances in communication. Today we do not have to wait as long to hear about a loved one. It is communicated by mouth, but not have to take a journey such as his to find out. The military comes to you. Basically, everyone has had a family they have had to worry about protecting them in some way as Telemachus. Times have changed, but basis of the story is still around over decades. People still have the responsibility to protect and take care of their family with or without a father. When Telemachus did finally return and his father returned they still protected their family and took revenge on the suitors by killing them all. This is an example of loyalty Odysseus and Telemachus had to their family. “Odysseus tells Telemachus to return home.
