To honor the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Concordia College of New York located in Bronxville held a thread of events that reflected civil rights and social justice. The students and faculty worked diligently to make each and every event powerful and meaningful to the community. The events were informative and inspirational to our next generations to stand up for change. Nonetheless, each event was free and open to many members of the community. In honorary of King’s assassination, one particular event was held on April 4th at one of Concordia’s newly renovated dining halls. To celebrate King’s life and legacy, student’s work and visual projects were on display in a social interactive environment where all guests learned and discussed the importance of social justice. Another station had a video display of the civil rights movement that included Rosa Parks and the bus boycott. Many of the tables had different copies of artifacts where history was right at one’s fingertips. There was a copy of an actual program that was given at one of King’s speeches. One of the highlights of the event was an enlarged pop art display of Martin Luther King’s face. For this event, students took their ideas and experiences with social justice and used their creativity to keep the conversation going about how issues of the past relate to today. Students were given a platform to participate and engage in dialogue about changes that can be
