I found it rather compelling that Oedipus unknowingly murdered his own father Laius and married his mother Jocasta. When I started reading this play, I assumed Oedipus intentionally killed his father and married his own mother out of lust. As I continued reading, I noticed a plague was made over the city of Thebes due to King Laius wanting a boy child and consulted the Oracle of Apollo at Delphi. Laius was then told if he had a son, his own son would kill him. Although Laius was aware of this curse, he still chose to have a son anyways. Years later, Oedipus had a curse on himself and ironically kills his father while traveling to Thebes due to a confrontation occurring on a crossroad.
