For example, in The House on Mango Street, Esperanza’s father works while her mom cares for Esperanza and her siblings. In addition, men enjoy privileges that are denied by females in both cultures. For example, education is an area where men and women are not treated equally. In my own family in India, the men are highly educated, whereas the women do not receive as much education.

In the 1800s there were many cultural differences surrounding Japan and the United States that directly resulted in differences in the opening of trade. The two countries shared the focus on the future and growth and development, however their ideology and methodology towards growth greatly differed. Introduction Today’s society consist of a variety of different cultures. Each cultures has their own identity, customs, and beliefs. In my community we have several strong, family oriented cultures.
Culture is a variation of different concept, culture consists of language, beliefs, values, norms, behaviors and material objects that are passed from one generation to the next. Sociologist describes two aspects of human cultures as nonmaterial culture and material culture. Nonmaterial culture is a group’s ways of thinking and doing things. Material culture is the material object that distinguishes a group of people, such as their art, buildings, weapons, clothes and jewelry. Material culture in Chain, Iran and Ethiopia differ from the material culture in the United States by the clothes they wear, hairstyles, buildings, eating utensils etc.
When the English settlers arrived in America they had many assumptions about the Native American people. Some of these assumptions by the English people included the idea that the Native American people were brutal savages. The differences in culture between the Native Americans and the Europeans often caused clashes that led to the destruction of land and the people. Unfortunately, the differences within the two cultures forced the Native Americans to either adapt to the European culture, or migrate west to reservations.
The Maasai culture and the culture of most Americans are similar and different in a variety of ways. One way that America is like the Maasai is that, overall women, in America still tend to do housework while the men are expected to work and provide for the family. Although these roles are less enforced and defined in America, they still exist. Also, both cultures have partiarchial societies. Again, although this type of society is not as strict in America, it is still there.
The central idea of this passage is that we all come from different places, we all have different lifestyles, we all have different religions we live upon, but the one thing we all do have in common is that God created us and put us on this planet for a reason. The passage explains that we are all different, and that religion may have something to do with that. The Christians say they aren 't as good to the Indians as the Indians are to them. The Christians are beginning to realize that the Indians are barbaric animals like they see them, them are now realizing that they are humans, too.
Coming to the cultural differences between Americans and Indians, the Indians are very much family oriented and much respect is paid to family values. On the other side, Americans culture values individual values and is more prominent than the family values. Another difference is that American culture appreciates mobility while the Indian culture love stability. On the other side, Americans think of self-reliance and independence while Indians are more dependent on other. Lastly, Indians value elders’ views in the decision-making process while the American culture teaches people to make their own decisions.
