Chines and other similar races had very difficult times back then 1900’s. They were discriminated and beaten. Both stories Dragonwings and “The Great 1906 San Francisco Earthquake and Fire” similar in ways and different in others. Overall they both portray the hard life of a chinese in the U.S. in the 1900’s.

All Together, they are alike by, both having character in the U.S.A and them being discriminated upon. In The Great 1906 San Francisco Earthquake and Fire it states “Any who ventured out beyond its borders risked A severe beating, or worse by white street thugs.” This proves that if the chinese left chinatowns border they will most likely be beaten and mugged by gang members and no one else will care because no one liked the chinese and they were racist. In Dragonwings the main setting is in China but they have a relative in the US working or living there, but in “The Great 1906 San Francisco Earthquake and Fire” it is based in San Francisco. In “Dragonwings” it states “My father had left our home in the Middle Kingdom, or China, as the white demons called it, and traveled over sea to work in the demon land.” This proves that they have their father overseas working in the US, but it is mostly in China so the setting is not completely in the US. In “The Great 1906 San Francisco Earthquake and Fire” it states “San Francisco was city with one of the most diverse populations in the country. Only a few blocks north of market street was Chinatown,” This explains how the setting of “The Great 1906 San Francisco Earthquake and Fire” is in San Francisco and not in china like
