Industrialization's Rise The great titans of the U.S Industrial Revolution could never have become so gigantic if they did not play their cards perfectly. And they did indeed play their hands correctly, by taking advantage of all the resources they had available to them at the time. Not only did the great titans of this era, such as Standard Oil, invent and utilize a great number of machines to amplify the magnitude of business they could conduct, they also employed and took advantage of the grand pool of immigrants to employ. Furthermore, these "Robber Barons" invested further in this Industrialization, with some like J.P Morgan pooling his money into even more inventions.
Overall industrialization had a big impact on the way our country developed. Industrialization effected the economic development of the United States in Numerous ways. For example, according to document 1a from 1860 to 1910 the value of manufactured products increased from $1.9 billion to $20.8 billion. That’s a 10 times increase in products made meaning more products were sold making the economy stronger.
There were many noticeable components that contributed to the advancement and growth of the United States such as: industrialization, the Great Depression, and war. Of the many occurrences, technology had the single greatest impact on the continued evolution of the United States. The new inventions, new discoveries, and new innovation led to greater economic growth and wealth that the American people experienced during 1920-1940. One invention that influenced and continues to impact American lives is the automobile. Kyvig (2002) has argued that automobile ownership tripled during the 1920s, and by the end of the decade four families out of five owned an automobile.
The period between 1950 and 2000 displayed a remarkable change in scientific and technological innovations that ultimately impacted the U.S. economy. Advancements in computing, aerospace, and manufacturing allowed the U.S. to transform its economy and upgraded the standard of living. Today, this essay will evaluate the extent to which these innovations changed the U.S. economy by explaining the innovation’s contribution to economic growth. The growth of the computing industry was one of the main innovations that shaped the U.S. economy. The development of information technology (IT) allowed for more powerful and faster computers that allowed us to create new industries such as aerospace programs.
Many factors greatly impacted the development of America such as slavery, railroads, wars, and agriculture. All of these factors can be placed into one of three overarching categories; technological innovation, territorial expansion, and cultural developments on the nation. Of the three factors, technological innovation was the factor which most dramatically altered life in the United States due to its presence in the development of both Cultural innovation and Territorial expansion. The United States brought technological advancements from the roads to war, there were very few aspects of modern day life that were not affected by the technological innovation that would soon spread across the world.
Between 1800 and 1900, the United States experienced great economic growth. Two factors that contributed to this growth were government policies and technological developments. America at the time was experiencing cultural and industrial revolutions at a rate that most other new nations, even today, could ever dream of. Government policies and technological developments had a huge influence on the American economy and shaped its character to an extent that defined for the future magnitude of success that it would see throughout the century. Policies such as the National Road and the tariff tax, and technological developments such as the cotton gin and the production of railroads, all contributed to the economic growth of the United States.
Having factories was a big part of the technological advances yet once the idea of interchangeable parts showed up and factories became more productive and ultimately made workers less valuable, while giving many people jobs. Since there were new job opportunities there was a change of population in America for the north there was urbanization according to the Library of Congress’s teacher ’s guide primary source set, “between 1860 and 1900, fourteen million immigrants came to the country, providing workers for an array of industries.” Many people came to work and did not need special skills to get a job. Immigrants and people looking for work could have an opportunity to make money
All these improvements in technology like canals and new roads altered the physical landscape in America for the better but also the economy (The Market Revolution: Crash Course U.S. History #12,
Has greatly improved because of the use of technology. This country is a democratic society which lets the people choose what they would like to do, and not the government. The U.S. Citizens use technology to help aid them in the right direction and to help aid the future in the right direction as well. An example of this is Thomas Edison, he created the light bulb and this invention has indeed helped the lives of many citizens in this country. Another form of technology are buses and trains, because those are some of the most important inventions ever made.
The United States saw a major change in the economy and how goods were moved in the country between 1865 and 1945. The ending of the American Civil War allowed American innovators to begin work on new inventions that would change the American economy. The substantial change was the industrialization of America. Development of electricity and new techniques opened job opportunities in industries across America. The United States began to mass produce steel that was able to be used in the construction of major cities, use railroads to expand into the western part of the United States, and the standardization of money, roads, railroads, and laws surrounding quality of life.
Economically, the value of America's manufactured goods increased to over 13 billion a year, and socially, a large amount of jobs opened up for unskilled workers to mass produce products. The new processes that surfaced in the Industrial Revolution changed the way Americans worked and provided the means for new technologies for
This development in technology had first started in Great Britain, but thanks to Samuel Slater the reproduction of english machines became present in the United States. With the leap from only trained professionals being able to manufacture goods to any man, women, or child being able to do the same thing made economic, social and technological changes in the US. Although agriculture still proved to be the backbone of the economy, the way in which farms were ran had adjusted. Rather than the farmer keeping a decent portion of their harvest, they opted to sell most of it in pursuit of more profit. Impact Technology Had On Social and Economic Lives In The 1920s As Henry Ford once said, “coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success” (“Henry Ford quotes,” n.d.). What is meant by this quote is that, by the success and increase in technology during the 1920s, the people of the United States were able to come together and be successful in the expansion, socially and economically. Radios, appliances, railroads and cars were some of the biggest inventions and technologies that helped the United States grow. With those technologies the United States was able to have a significant increase in the economy.
Over time Americans have become less literate due to the experiences they have endured as well as the technology acquired through time. Technology has affected the American culture by aiding research, health care and even education. It may therefore come as no surprise that some people may find various technological advancements as negative since they require less human effort and thinking. Some may even argue that inventions such as the cell phone or even the internet have all aided in child obesity, lower grades, and lack of knowledge when it comes to learning the “old fashioned way”. When it comes down to literacy, it depends on which of the various definitions of literacy is used.
