He has lived in a flat in London most of his life, but moved to a home called Blackbriar located in Dunchester and lived there for a few months. Blackbriar is a modestly sized, run down cabin in the middle of the woods. He lived there for a couple of months. There are a few interesting aspects of the house that cause an eerie mood to be present in the novel. These aspects are a passageway that leads to their neighbor’s house and the cellar door that has names and dates from the 1600s carved into it. Not only does the appearance of Blackbriar affect the atmosphere, the history of the house also affects it. Back in the 1600s, the house was where the town kept people dying of the plague. The fact that five to six people died in Blackbriar helps create an eerie atmosphere. The isolated feeling of the house also contributes to the eerie feeling throughout the
