3 Using the understandings you have developed from modules 3 and 4, and your reading, discuss the quality of the multimodal resources in the original unit. Do they support the expected learning outcomes identified in the original unit? If so, how and why? If not, why not? (500 -750 words).
The multimodal resources are well implicated in the My Place and My Family unit and support the intended learning outcomes. There is a wide range of resources covering all five semiotic systems and supporting the learning outcomes. Multimodal resources included are charts, maps (various), photographs (if they include dates), books, artefacts, oral histories, digital media, websites, and drawings/pictures (if they include writing). The first learning outcome for Geography is students identify "places and develops an understanding of the importance of places to people" (BOSTES, 2016, p.1). Visual, spatial, gestural, audio and linguistic is used when using maps to show where members of their family where born. Children access a range of multimodal resources and use a variety of semiotic systems, throughout the unit. Resources used to gain an understanding of places to people include artefacts, photos, oral histories, books, etc.

The second Geography learning outcome is that students are able to communicate geographical information and use geographical tools (BOSTES, 2016). Multimodal resources used to support the learning outcome are the variety of maps which are linguistic, spatial and visual.

The first learning outcome for History is students "communicate stories of their own family and the heritage of others" (BOSTES, 2016, p.1). The multimodal resources available to meet this outcome are photographs, pictures, drawings, oral histories and/or digital media (BOSTES, 2016).
