The Holocaust has a monumental historical significance. People of all ages have heard of this tragedy and how it affected millions of innocent people’s lives. Over the course of 3 years, 11 million people were unjustly murdered. They were executed, tortured, and taken to camps where they were killed and burned like livestock. Many Jewish people were forced into hiding in a last-ditch effort to stay out of these concentration camps. Our novel, “Behind the Bedroom Wall'' dives into the life of a normal German girl whose parents are helping hide a Jewish family. This beautifully crafted story brings awareness to another side of the Holocaust that very few know about.

Korinna was a very active member in all things involving Hitler. So when she found out what her parents had been doing, she truly struggled to hide it from her friends, teachers, and leaders. Before the Jewish family came into her life, she obeyed every single thing that Hitler and her Jungmadel (A Nazi organization for young girls) leaders told her, so when she discovered Jews were living behind her wardrobe, she had a big internal struggle about whether or not to tell her leaders. Korinna wanted to hate the family, she really did, but as she learned more about them, and spoke to them more frequently, she couldn’t help but start to empathize with them. This is understandable because they went through so much during that difficult time. But the Holocaust affected millions of people, and not every single one of them was a Jewish adult. The novel that we read, “Behind the Bedroom Wall” revealed a couple of different perspectives that aren’t talked about as much. It showed what it was like to be a Jewish child, hiding behind a wall, in a small, malodorous room, twenty-four hours a day. They were always in fear of being found by the Gestapo and taken away, or just killed right on the spot. This is a feeling no kid should ever have to deal with, but these kids
