The Reasons Behind Poe “Sorrow for the lost Lenore.” Poe wrote. Edgar Allan Poe lost his wife. He is the author of many dark and scary short stories. He does this with conflict, character and symbolism. Edgar Allan Poe wrote stories such as The Raven, The Black Cat, The Cask of Amontillado, and many others.The narrator wanted revenge but he got caught so he was executed.In Poe’s short stories the theme of revenge is actually just symbolising his love for his faimily. There are many examples of conflict in Poe’s short stories. Conflict examples are Character Vs. Character and Character Vs. Self. It is just conflict that makes up the story. “From thy memories of Lenore.” Lenore is his wife that died. This connects to the thesis because the thesis says that his revenge is just out of love for his family. The author wrote, “But this blow arrested by the hand of my wife.” This is his wife trying to keep him from going insane. This proves my thesis because it is for the love of of his wife that he stopped. He wanted revenge only out the rage from the loss of his wife. Poe wrote, “Quoth the raven, Nevermore” This is when the raven came in and perched above his chamber door. It symbolises that the narrator will never be happy again. An example of figurative language is, “Deep into that darkness peering…” This quote shows how Poe is dark and he wants revenge. The narrator is very dark. That is why he wants revenge.
