Statement on the Assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. Essay If you could give a speech about anything bad that was happening in the world, what would your speech be about?? Well, Kennedy chose to improvise his speech and make it about the tragic death of MLK. In Kennedy's speech in the passage “Statement on the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr”, Kennedy uses Rhetorical appeals to try and convince his audience to act in a sign of love instead of hate after MLK’s death. Kennedy used Rhetorical Appeals throughout his speech to get his point across on how he feels everyone should act after Martin Luther King's assassination. In Kennedy's speech he uses Logos to explain what he thinks should happen during that time of MLK’s death. It explains that, “On April 4, 1968, In the midst of his presidential campaign rally , Kennedy revealed the news to the crowd and then made some brief but powerful remarks about King’s death”. Kennedy used what he found out about MLK to come up with a good speech to share with the protesters. Kennedy shares that he thinks everyone should choose peace instead of violence. In the passage it says, “What we need in the United States is not division; what we need in the United States is not hatred; what we need in the United States is not violence and lawlessness, but is love, and wisdom, and compassion toward one another, and a feeling of justice toward those who still suffer within our country, whether they be white or whether they be black”. This tells us how big of an impact Kennedy tried to make amongst the crowd. In Kennedy's speech he also uses Pathos to explain how he feels about what happened April 4th
