What’s up guys welcome back to the Lucky Country I am Isaac and I’m a guest speaker on this channel. Today we will be discussing Black Skin Red Rocks by Ashleigh Barty. I have chosen this topic because the journey that Ash Barty has been on is interesting and tell us about how she found out who she is.
Some of the themes that are presented in the memoir are, Identity and Relationship. We are going to investigate this today. One of the themes shown in this memoir is Identity. This is because Ash Barty’s dad whose name is Robert tries to investigate who he was to find out that he was Aboriginal and once he did find out his parents did not want him to investigate it further because of the Relationship between the government and the Aboriginals at the time. Another theme shown in the memoir is relationship. This is shown when Robert and his parents start to have some problems because he wants to find out if he has Aboriginal blood. To find this out he had to talk to his family and extended family.

It shows us that Ashleigh Barty had no idea about her ‘people’ the Ngarigo People. This tells us that her parents had no intention of tell her or her Siblings about the Aboriginal Heritage. This is odd because when she was growing up the relationship between the Government and Aboriginals was significantly improving. Maybe her parents did not want Ashleigh Barty and her siblings to know about their heritage because they may become outcasts to society? Comment what you think below.
On page 3 Ash Barty comes home with a digeridoo and shows her dad. Thinking that she would get a good response but instead she got the opposite. Her dad said that she cannot play it because she is not a man. This shows us that Ash Bary does not know all the rules of the ‘mob’ and is still learning all the rules. I think that this really helped Ash Barty look more into Aboriginal customs and
