The human brain is made up of many things, like blood, flesh and veins, but deeper in the brain consists of one's stress, thoughts and pain. As humans, we experience a lot of pain, it could be physical, mental or psychological. Pain can be caused by many things, even by another person. Their acts, their words or even their behaviour can cause you some type of pain. Over time, mental pain becomes a burden, and we need to open up once in a while and relieve ourselves of this burden. In my book, Medicine Walk, by Richard Wagamese, an evident theme is, talking about what's on your mind, or discussing problems you have with other people, does not make you weaker, it strengthens you, as it relieves you of all the burden, and/or strengthens your relationship with the other …show more content…

He spoke about how he couldn’t open up to Frank’s mother about the problems he had, about how he would feel embarrassed if he did open up to Frank’s mother, as a result, to cope with the burden on his mind, Eldon turned to alcohol. Ultimately becoming a struggling alcoholic, leading to Eldon abandoning Frank as a child. Since Frank wasn’t a child anymore, he realized and understood his father’s point of view, which led to them both forgiving each other before Eldon passed away. If Eldon hadn’t opened up to Frank, Frank would’ve never forgiven Eldon, leading to Frank blaming Eldon for the rest of his life and burdening himself with this as well. If Eldon did not open up to Frank, he would’ve passed away with the guilt of abandoning Frank as a child, which is why it is important to open up about yourself and let a trusted person know what is on your mind Furthermore, a quote from chapter 14, is a key quote from the book, as it is what starts the conversation between Eldon and Frank. In this quote Eldon says,
"You're supposed to try to get to know me like a father knows a son," he said
