The article, “What Provokes Young People to Get Into Trouble: Singapore Stories”, was about a research study conducted at the Kaki Bukit Center Prison School located in Singapore. The results were gathered from 54 adolescents stationed at the school. The facility was established so young offenders could have the opportunity to learn healthy behaviors and progress towards living a normal life. Unlike a regular prison, their goals comprise of giving young troubled people the chance to rehabilitate and further their education. Convictions of the juveniles ranged from fighting, stealing, illegal video distribution, destroying property, obtaining a dangerous weapon, and being caught holding drugs or alcohol. There are many theories to why these young people chose to break the law, and researchers wanted to figure out which theories were more accurate. I’m not proud to admit that I’ve also participated in minor delinquent behavior, but luckily escaped without getting caught in the act. There also seems to be areas where delinquency is extremely high with numerous violent incidents. Living in Anchorage, Alaska specifically, there are multiple incidents every month. This article was very informative and had a lot of suitable propositions for resolutions. Although the research resulted in a number of reasons for delinquent behavior, I think their study wasn’t broad enough to say that those reasons are the only range of causes for young adults to act out. I also think they should take in mind the fact that a lot of delinquents don’t live in poor conditions. There are probably a lot of higher-class kids who live in great neighborhoods that cause a lot of disturbances. Terms in the article seemed mostly
