The reason the raft was known as the ark was due to that the raft could hold the entire Appleton family, their animals, and some of their livestock as stated in paragraph 11. The father soon received the nickname of Noah or Noah count; the other people thought he was crazy for building the raft according to paragraph 12-13. However, this later helped him and his family when the flash flood occurred; because of his early preparations, his family and their animals and some livestock were able to escape safely. The other people didn’t prepare early like the father so they had to sit on the roof of their houses on getting on small boats as said in paragraph
In “Noah Count and the Arkansas Ark” by Gary Blackwood, the author demonstrates the value of education, and how the boy’s family lacks it. But, in this essay we will be discussing how the son observes that there is more than one type of education. In paragraphs 1-7, the narrator is sitting at the table listening to a conversation between his grandmother, his father, and his mother. They are discussing how they predict it is going to rain because “the cat sneezed, Granny’s rheumatiz is worse, and the coffee pot boiled over.”

The younger boys father in the plot of the story was made fun of because of his expertise in building, but because he was informally educated he did not have to suffer the consensus of the flood. Although the flood was a major outcome though the story the main character changes his feeling from being nervous, to preparing for the big flood and watching his father being made fun of, to being safe because of the sacrifices he made. In the beginning of the passage the main character is nervous, scared and anxious for what is to come.

Flood Essay Introduction Killing an estimated 1,833 people, Hurricane Katrina was one of the deadliest hurricanes to ever hit the United States. The flooding alone caused massive devastation and destruction. Millions of people lost their homes and all their possessions. This flood was horrific, but imagine a flood so great that it destroyed all of humanity. This great flood occurs in the stories of Noah, Utnapishtim, and Deucalion.
For Utnapishtim he was warned in a dream by Ea. On the other hand Noah was warned directly from the lord as in the lord was speaking directly to him. As they the two soon received their warning and instructions, they soon started to work. The art work that is analyzed below is the “Noah Sacrificing Deluge” by Benjamin West. This particular painting was painted in the 1800s and the artist used an Oil Paint on a canvas. This art was 1 out of 36 in a series for the Windsor Castle in England. Mr. West lived to be 82 years old and was the first Americans to become a success on the foreign market. He would become a historical painter for King George III and president of the Royal Academy of Arts.

There are many similarities and differences between the story of Noah in Genesis and the story of Utnapishtim in the Epic of Gilgamesh. To start off, the first similarity I found was the reasons why the floods started. Both Gods in each story wanted to dispose of all humanity. However, there is a difference in the reasons why the Gods wanted to. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, the God Enlil wanted to destroy mankind because they were too noisy, as shown in this quote, “The uproar of mankind is intolerable and sleep is no longer possible by reason of the babel.”
