What would it be like not to have rights? Well people in Birmingham, Alabama knew exactly how it felt not have rights. So they decided to take action.The Children’s Crusade was a non-violent march to protest segregation in the city of Birmingham in 1963. Many children of Birmingham and other civil rights activists led the march through the city Birmingham. The march gained the support of many at the time, and has even influenced the world today. One example of this was our last president who was the first ever African American President, Barack Obama. There were three main parts of the Crusade: What it was, the people involved, and what role it played in the Civil Rights movement. One of them of course was Martin Luther King Jr. He helped lead and organize the act, and was actually arrested and thrown into jail for participating in the march. He was then released the next day and participated again in another rmarch. The leader and the person who organized the whole Crusade was Reverend James Bevel. James was a Civil Rights activist who, who worked alongside Martin Luther King in an organization called Southern Christian Leadership Conference. That performed non-violent civil rights protests. The Children’s Crusade played a big role in the Civil Rights movement. First of all as I said before it eventually led to the desegregation of Birmingham. But during the act it showed just how little respect people had for African-Americans. But African-Americans were letting people know they would not stop until they got equality. After this people were more determined than ever to fight for their rights. People then finnally started to see things the way other people did too. There are also many inspirational and profound African-Americans in our society, that would not have rights today without things like the Children’s Crusade. Actors, actresses, athletes, and others have their ancestors to thank for the rights they have today. The Children’s Crusade was a very important part in the long term impact of America. The Children’s Crusade affected all parts of society in many ways. Such as the fact that they still reenact it today. Society has also benefitted a lot from the Crusade.
