The Roman empire controlled its people and land but, the Han controlled its people and land more effectively. Of course, Rome could have succeeded in controlling its empire but, by looking at the political, technological, and social aspects, it is clear that the Han left a larger impact to the world and revolutionized life by exercising more effective control overall. The Han controlled its people and territory more harshly than the Romans. Although they were harsher, they also worked more efficiently and took initiative.
The Roman Civilization, which lasted from 509 BCE to 476 CE and was located in present day Italy, was one of history’s greatest empires. Ancient Rome met the criteria to being a civilization by having a powerful government, a capable military and vigorous trading. Rome’s remarkable government was the reason why Rome lasted for more than 500 years. It provided employment for hundreds of thousands of workers, and Rome experienced rapid growth because of that (Bently 271). Trade brought new products and traders exchanged vast ideas and thoughts which led to Rome being very prosperous (Bently 284).
This book has given me a greater understanding on the Classics as a whole. The book touches on a plethora of classical topics in chapter 2, and often compares the western civilization to our west. The author also gave me better understanding of the time periods. I didn’t know slaves had better treatment than the free people in Persia at the time, or that war was an enormous role in Classics age. From the western civilization class I’ve took earlier this year, this books discuss the importance of money in a war, when Sparta beat Athens, or when Rome beat the Carthaginians because of the new money they received to build ships.
Writing can be an effective way in persuading an audience. Creating a connection to the audience is a difficult task, but if rhetorical writing is used correctly, one's writing can be impactful and effective. The authors, Greg Lukianoff and Jonathan Haidt, of "The Coddling of the American Mind" use rhetorical strategies to evoke interest, and to assist in bringing across meaning to the reader. Some of the effects used include data, quotes from ancient philosophers, and specific word connotation. The rhetorical strategies used by Haidt and Lukianoff are for the most part unsuccessful in convincing college administration that shielding students does more harm than good.

The first protagonists are the people of Midkemia who are fighting in a war against the Tsurani and Guy du Bas-Tyra’s army. The Tsurani, the antagonists, are invaders from another world stationed on Midkemia to take the metals from out of the ground, and bring them back to their homeworld where they have a very small amount. Guy du Bas-Tyra, another antagonist, is a member of the Empire, and is trying to take control of it in its weak state, this is due to the war being fought. The second set of protagonists are the Tsurani who are fighting off an evil they have been fighting since the beginning of time; an evil only known as The Enemy. The Enemy, the antagonist, is a very vague mysterious thing.
