What Was Nietzsche Said To Be A Pessimist?

First of all, let me begin by saying that this, at the very end, is all a subjectivist matter. Nietzsche has to be one of my favorite philosophers that I have been able to read about. In the eyes of many, he seems to be a pessimist but I on the contrary, believe that labeling him as such is incorrect. To be a pessimist is to only see or believe that evil or hardships in life outweigh the good. Nietzsche was a student of ethics, he understood how life was and how it could be improved. One of the greatest ideas I set apart from this German philosopher was his philosophy to be an ubermensch; to be the best that you can possibly become. This philosophy is similar to that of Socrates’ on how to live an arête life, and if both these philosophies be put together, we would be able to achieve human excellence. …show more content…

His quote was an observation on the independent relationship between religion and human morality, and the impact the lack of religion has on the latter. Where thousands of years ago, mankind was not able to explain the mysteries of the world, the idea of God came to serve as a purpose to attain some sense of understanding. People put their faith in an all-powerful, all-loving, omnipotent being to provide a framework wherein knowledge can be attained. And this idea of accepting a divine revelation, has made it easy to worship God and as a result we have made ourselves complacent with such. But the greatest challenge of them all, is how to live with ourselves with the absence of such a deity.
